Most continental manufacturers used the pyramidal inking system on stop-cylinder machines in preference to the conventional ink table transfer method, as it enabled a shorter bed motion, which in itself offered many advantages. A hand-operated impression lever, seen directly above the impression cylinder bearing, lifted the cylinder clear of the forme when impression was not required.
